Yeah well: first work got in the way, then something else; until xmas, when I experienced a complete OS failure but then I buggered off to the beach for a couple of weeks and when I got back the urge to restore it
exactly the way it was had kind of faded. You know how some things suddenly seem unimportant?
So instead of wasting the typical 4 hours fixing registry keys here and there, I decided to restart from scratch - after all, all my data is on the other partition, so I shouldn't lose anything - hell, I even backed up the mailboxes and the newsgroups and all the plug-ins and the entire desktop and yeah, bound to have forgotten something but right now I can't quite figure it out so what the hell, it's prolly nothing important anyway, YES YES delete the bloody partition and re-create it, thank you very much. There you go, that's a good fellow. Format and install new OS, turn off all the stupid unnecessary services, configure the network, install printers, scanners, tablets, man is this part boring!, works like a charm. Except, I still think I might have forgotten something, only I just can't...
Whoopsie.
The last time I had to redo my cfg from scratch I spent a couple of truly painful weeks fiddling with stuff I had no idea about and getting kicked by PB on a regular basis; I also pestered anyone who looked remotely knowledgeable (i.e. Spud, basically) with ridiculous questions whose answers I never fully understood anyway. I really can't be arsed to go thru all that again, not to mention the month or so it'd take me to regain anything even remotely comparable to low-level skills: so yeah, for the first time in I don't know how many years, I'm not installing ET. WOW, feels kind of strange!
Have fun out there
